I had recruited a kid from Minnesota. He visited our campus for a couple days attending classes, meeting with faculty, and left saying that he was set to attend here. We were the school he always dreamed of. He just had one more visit to take--plane tickets are already purchased so can't really back out.

It was to SLO. He called me his last night there. Said he was sitting on the beach watching the sun set. Said he may never get the chance to live in that setting ever again. Nothing about the academic opportunities or preparation being better. No, it was all about a Pacific sunset.
