...it’s what made BYU great during the Lavell Edwards era (passing when most programs were running). I think the problem with the uptempo idea is that very quickly nearly everyone started doing it and there was no advantage in how fast we were vs others. However with the slimmer, trimmer OL we struggled for several years with winning the battle of the trenches.
I think it wasn’t thought through very well at the time. It was a trendy idea that, as more opponents did it, left little margin for “executing it at a higher level” because of diminishing returns. Plus there were a number of unintended consequences of the approach that had an impact on the team.
