Last fall I was asked by my area director (a CES-employed person) to be sure I had updated WISE for all seniors applying to BYU. WISE is the system we use to record attendance, readings, and a few other markers (we now have 2 Learning Assessments, though I don’t think the actual score would make a difference for BYU applicants). Here is the language I received:
“BYU Admissions uses the information from WISE transcripts they feel is important in making admissions decisions.“
“BYU applicants are also advised to use the explanation box provided“
In addition to the seminary teacher’s recommendation, I imagine admissions could look at attendance. As a teacher I would make sure that any student who didn’t have good attendance has a chance to explain mitigating factors. For example, I have a student who is the only English speaker in his home, works a lot, and often has to help his family. I’d explain his situation carefully.
