Michigan and Washington are huge questions marks, as is BYU. I'm not sold on Texas being back. Stanford appears to be heading in the wrong direction.
In terms of academics, Stanford would be the obvious first choice, so if my kid had little shot at the NFL, I'd point him to Stanford. Notre Dame and Michigan aren't slouches academically, and as my kid will most likely be raised in the Upper Midwest and might have a preferrence for the area, the networks of either of those schools would help his employment chances anywhere in the region.
If we were opening it up to non-listed schools, I would have my kid consider Northwestern. It's a great school and I think Pat Fitzgerald would be a good coach to play for.
