He was never trying to lose. He never profited from losing. That is a huge difference.
Perhaps he didn't put in his best pitcher or best lineup. But he wasn't throwing out guys he didn't want to succeed. Huge difference.
Attempting to lose and caring less if you win are not the same thing.
