To be fair, it isn’t really that hard to cheat for gpa and test scores. Essays allow schools to find out things about applicants that they can’t or wouldn’t think to ask.

Thanks. Does BYU post this somewhere on the school's website?

What does 4.0 due to accelerated classes mean?
kotacoug

He said over 4.0. Some high schools use a scale that awards an extra point (5.0 for an A) in honors classes.

Correct. There is a section on the application that asks candidates to list AP/IB classes

So if you have "over" a 4.0 they look at it just as a "4.0"?

I'm sure they have a metric to consider the rigor of the classes taken but it is technically separate

Kind of. My senior daughter's weighted 4.6 is a 4.0 in BYU's eyes

That’s crazy. That means that 70% of her classes were weighted classes.

AP and honors were weighted. Honors could get a 4.5, AP a 5.0
unctoothman
1/25/20 12:16am
Yes they don’t put any weight on classes. Whatever the score fore

only if it's all As. You can have a 4.5 weighted and a 3.8 unweighted

No that’s not correct.
BYUCLA

Averages are 3.87 unweighted and 29.5 ACT

I believe it's 6 essays if ones for scholarship apps are included. Unfortunately,

ACT is absolutely biased against low SES as well. That's not at all my argument.

I think the pressure to get into BYU might be greater.

Getting into BYU is a layup compared to getting into an IVY. And... BYU-I accepts nearly 100% of applicants.

True, but I wasn’t saying BYU is harder to get into.
