My argument was that BYU hasn't always been a paragon of unequivocally clean and supportive play - there's definitely times where we were closer to dirty. Not dirty per se, but close enough to be viewed that way through an opposing fan lens.
I don't however think that BYU has been any worse or better than most programs in that regard though. There's been times where BYU has been more chippy (Bronco era) and times where BYU has been less chippy (Kalani era), but that's true of every program. It just gets extra play because (as mentioned) BYU has been a top dog among its peers for most of the last 50 years in the WAC and MWC, and losing/frustration breeds bitterness.
