I like loyalty to school etc, but if in a less than ideal spot I understand kids wanting to go to a school that fits them. If a coaching staff can help them why be locked into a school. I also believe the same for academics, music, dance etc etc. Utah does not have the private school options, maybe a few but not at the same level as other states.
Where we live there are strict boundaries, no exceptions. The school system greatly impacts housing values, kids can’t go to school outside their town. The difference is we have a lot of top academic and very good athletic private schools as alternatives. If a school does not fit your child they can go where they can thrive. The private school can full on recruit and they do, they can offer financial based assistance etc. So there are alternatives if a public school does not work, you can even reclass in HS (ie redshirt).
