Fire Blight is a bacteria that attacks pear and apple trees.
it attacks open flowers in the spring and once in the wood, will slowly advance up the branch until it eventually reaches the trunk and kills the entire tree. You can try and kill it by spraying flowers with anti-bacterial spray during spring, but the best way is wait until you see the dead branches and cut 12-18 inches below the canker.
