In 1829 a British ship sailed up the Willamette River and anchored at the...
mouth of the Clackamas River. 5,000 indigenous people lived in the area and fished below the falls. They had thrived there for countless generations and more than 3,000 years. The ship had small pox and all but 200 natives were dead within two years.

I marvel at how long people lived in the areas that I now live, and even though it's the same place, it's another world. I drive by that place most every day and wonder what life must have been for those people that lived here for thousands of years.
