I addressed his points because of the misinformation in them.
There are people who would be influenced by that. You're right that I probably did nothing to change his mind, but I never thought there was much chance of that.
I've been considering your other point as well. I think the main issue with those who disagree with what I've done is that they believe that BYUMizzou's post was not serious, and I'm overreacting. His post appeared fairly serious to me, and I reacted accordingly.
