The issue is, left to a committee, the G5 champion would never “earn” a spot
because they aren’t allowed to play in a P5 league.
It’s the perfect situation: disallow, say, Boise State from playing in the Big 12 and then turnaround and disallow them from participating in the playoff because they don’t play in the Big 12.
The only way to introduce true equity into the system is to guarantee one spot to the G5 autobid, then seed them based on final committee rankings.
