But, true, for many (perhaps most), a 3-9 scope will be sufficient to bag a deer. I would argue, though, that an experienced long range shooter dialing in a shot at 800 yards is more likely to make a kill shot than someone using a 3-9 scope and "holding over" on a deer at 300 yards when the only shooting they have done is sighting in their gun at 100 yards at the range a few weeks before the season.
