The article spells out the painful truths about Heaps some of us
saw plainly his Sophomore season. As for a few:

1. His NFL potential just wasn't there. He simply wasn't big & strong enough to compensate for his abysmal speed and athleticism. And he wasn't half as cerebral as he was polished as a QB. Considering his hype & ranking I think many of us were led to believe he was a genius of the QB. That just wasn't the case. While he had a beautiful throw that he could really air out when his feet were set, he didn't have a cannon, nor were his short passes as polished as were his long. His mechanics may have been impeccable, but his delivery still was a work in progress.

2. He was overconfident in his abilities. And when his confidence crashed--it bottomed out something terrible.

3. His family struggles were made public here by a couple posters his Sophomore season. And they did explain a lot about his decisions (in ways that anyone with half a heart should sympathize with in full).

Heaps deserves a ton of credit for sticking it out & working his butt off to fulfill his dreams (despite all the jumping around to various programs). Hope the kid the very best, & really wish things had worked out better for him. He still has the world ahead of him & has accomplished & experienced things in his short lifetime that most of us could only dream of.
