I was at a lunch with Coach Peterson at UW where he said that their S&C coach gets to work with the players before any of the other coaches in the spring because of NCAA rules. For Peterson, the S&C coach's input on incoming freshman and other players has a big impact on depth charts. More than just strength, the S&C coach provides commentary on a kid's attitude, toughness, work ethic, etc. Peterson said that when his S&C coach says "This kid will be a player," he listens. He really emphasized the importance of this position on his coaching staff.
