I think a lot will depend on how much better recruiting gets...BYU's weakness
is really its depth. BYU's starters are right up there with the top 30 teams in the country (maybe top 20) but its the lack of depth that has been hurting BYU as they have gone Indy. Winning would solve this, because people want to play for a winner. But the real problem is scheduling. While BYU's road schedule is pretty darn good, their home schedule is still hit and miss. This season's schedule outside of Boise State really is quite lackluster. And while next year's schedule a big step up, the problem is still getting good teams to come to Provo.

The other question is whether or not BYU can recruit at a top 20 level every year as an Indy. I say if they can, they should stay independent. For me the best of both worlds would be to have a scheduling agreement with the Pac or the Big 12...which would really help home scheduling.

OF course this leaves out all the other sports, which I don't think like being in the WCC (especially Basketball, notwithstanding us not winning a conference title yet).
