I think this is flawed reasoning in football though
If you ever notice, most coaches and players at successful programs never say anything really bad about their school's fans. It's not smart and I feel you could only get away with it at a school like BYU because the fans tend to be less malicious on average. The fans have the capability of forming a mob that can call for your job. It's not smart to piss them off no matter how wrong they are.

Just bad PR. In a game where fan support is so important, accusing them of the cardinal sports sin of "bandwagoning" is not a good move. I hope people still come and support the team on Friday, I'll be there, but the players and coaches better not act surprised if fewer people show up. That's the nature of the thing.
