this is a popular "opinion" if that, more a simple fact. Bronco was known for doing well at the top and didn't round out the bottom parts of his classes well. Got what he wanted at the top and kind of filled the rest with guys who were probably much better off the field than they were on the field. Can't get over CB saying anything about Bronco, listen to Jake Kuresa. He explained it perfectly. Now, Bronco did get a bit better from 2014 on. He rounded out his classes better. Before that it was poor.
BYU doesn't need three more 4 stars in every class. They need more 3 stars rounding out the "bottom" 2/3 or so. Or at least better looking talent that can be plug-n-play type athletes.
I get that what you're saying is you don't buy that Bronco didn't care. I agree. But you're crazy to think he went after the best he could get to round out classes. That's just not true. I think he did settle quite a bit for guys who would be good HC/Academic fits. That's pretty common knowledge. He had plenty of issues recruiting and often had staff who weren't the greatest at it or didn't like it.
There will be more shots taken to bring in talent that isn't some guaranteed boy scout fit.
