We leave 4:00-5:00am so kids sleep and traffic is light...cuts 1 hr off time
Leaving after 7:30 am means traffic back to SoCal, and the later in the morning/ afternoon you leave the worse it is. I've had times, especially around holidays, that it added 2-3 hours to the drive.
