The world is coming to an end. The end is prophesied. Supernal forces take measures to ensure continuity of mankind absent the evil influences and transports innocent children to an Edenic garden where mankind starts anew. Meanwhile, mankind version.x ends its time, as the earth is cleansed with fire and in the instance of Cage's character, he has an ephiphany realizing that his old man was right all along and that regardless that their end was nigh, relationships were what really mattered. In the end, knowing was coming to that realization. All die. ALL. You don't get to take anything with you, but you can take relationships. Relationships are what matter. Knowing (that) makes all the difference.

I found the angels are aliens view interesting in that it's essentially true. God is not of this earth (He can't be since he created it), so he is extra-terrestrial. Spiritually, we all are. So why not alien angels? I found the gospel corollaries interesting.

Btw, One could argue that the end times prophesied are pointless as well if we all perish in the earth consumed with fire.
