Are they are jealous of how the players are worshiped by society? Perhaps they feel like ticket prices are too expensive and are jealous of how much NFL players make. The celebrity status of college players bothers them. Booing when they perform sub-par is their way of sticking it to "The Man" and making themselves feel better about paying money to sit in the stands causing worship to the players.

Could it be that booing your own players is a sign of your own self esteem issues? I seriously think this might be the case.
