Problem here is people are zeroing in on only one meaning of the word "sissy".
Apparently, though I've never heard it used that way and I grew up in the 70's and 80's when it was used a lot, some people think the word "sissy" means "homosexual". It can, I guess, to some people, but doesn't to the majority of people. I don't place much confidence in Wikipedia (for a laugh go look at the revision history of the "Sissy" Wikipedia page), but even it has homosexual at the very end of the definition, after about 20 other things the word can mean.

I don't know the motivation for the original newspaper article, but it seems strange that a word that's been around forever is now out of bounds. So if one person says a word now means homosexual that everyone else has to use it in that context? I must have missed that memo.
