While it is not possible for a six foot tall dude standing on his feet to blend in with Blue Turf, it is possible for a dude who lays down on the ground at the back of the field to be ignored and forgotten by dudes standing on their feet, running, while looking at other dudes standing on their feet running, who are in front of the dude laying on the ground.
This is not different than when you used to be able to huddle ten guys on the field, and sneak one on by the sideline who could sneak behind the defense unobserved and catch a pass. Now you have to break the huddle with 11 dudes. There will probably be a rule about this soon enough. It is the lying down that makes the difference. The color probably helps a lot, but they have to lay down on the ground while you're looking the other way to get any benefit from it.
