When I tell the client there is a chance I'll have things done for less than the
retainer amount, they end up getting something back more than half of the time.
Most of the time I tell people their matter will take more than the retainer before I'm finished, but the retainer is just to get things started. Even then, they have the right to decide to stop using my services and they'll get something back if I haven't come out of pocket and/or done the value of work that hits the retainer amount.
