I had to watch the whole thing in my Film Literature class in high school.
When HAL killed everyone aboard I let out a huge cheer and said "finally something exciting happens". The rest of the class agreed and started talking bad about the movie. My teacher wasn't impressed and said because we failed to appreciate the movie we would watch it again. I was not happy.
