I agree. I think Bronco "jumped the shark" as HC during the whole Riley...
...Nelson debacle. He showed he was no longer the same coach willing to hold players accountable who weren't getting the job done on the field as he was when he first took over after Crowton. I remember a comment by him in his first year where he talked about player's starting roles being game to game and even practice to practice and he wouldn't hesitate to let a backup player overtake a starter if the starter wasn't producing on the field.

The Riley years marked an ugly chapter in BYU football where so much potential for a truly special season was wasted because Bronco let his personal mancrush override his judgement (Riley wasn't the entire problem, just a highly visible manifestation of the problem, you can also see the same thing existed with his running off Coach Anae and promoting Brandon Doman to OC, his mancrush with Nick Howell, etc). I hope we don't waste what could be some really special years with the Bball team not keeping players accountable and building a team first culture.

I don't have access to the BBall lockerroom to see what goes on behind closed doors but for the past several years (kind of a hangover effect from the Jimmer years) it seems like Rose has given players a really long leash due to a lack of overall talent but as a result he's built a culture of hero ball on offense with no accountability and players not wanting to make much effort on defense. I believe this year we are seeing a very slow reigning in of glory seeking players, Nick isn't as bad as he was at the beginning of the season and he's become a leader on defense, Elijah has also calmed down forcing bad shots looking for his own shot but I don't see the same effort yet from him on defense like we're getting from Emery. It's unfortunate though that it's taken almost the entire season to get to this point. Haws also has been spotty with his effort on D. We've got a ways to go and unfortunately we've blown the entire season trying to learn these lessons. Hopefully the culture of entitlement will continue to fall by the wayside and players will get a more blue collar mentality towards team play and defense.
