I can't blame BYU for doing what they did. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to stay in the MWC. But the fact is, the basketball team lost any realistic shot at legitimacy in deference to a football team who'd get 8-9 wins a year in seasons devoid of any intrigue whatsoever after about the first week of October, and a date at an ignominious pre-Christmas bowl game whose payout doesn't even cover the travel cost to get to it.
