Maybe not recruiting, but the move meant BYU had to be a different type program
than they had been before. There is now zero margin for error. There are only 4 possible good wins in conference. The rest are all BAD losses. Nobody (read: committee) would hold a loss to a UNM or UNLV, or even your odd Colorado State NEAR as much against us as one to ANY WCC team not from Spokane or Moraga. We had to become a more regimented team than ever before, and we've proven not to be able to do that. We simply can't lose games to any but two teams anymore, and we get no quality wins from anybody but those two.

It's not an axe to grind. And it's not even the WCC. Shoot, the WCC was more than gracious, and after what went down, was a softer landing spot than anybody dared to hope for. (Imagine the tightrope we'd have to walk in conference if the WCC invite never materialized, and we DID end up in that cockamamie WAC conglomeration!!! Imagine the WCC WITHOUT two teams to potentially get a quality win off of. That's what it would have been. ANY conference loss would have cost us an at-large berth!)

What the basketball team got was the best they were going to get under the circumstances, and it meant they'd have to change their philosophy to be surgical offensively and defensively. No screw ups. We have so far been unable to be that.

That's what I meant.
