How bad is the recovery after having your tonsils removed?

My wife had hers out 3 weeks ago. Plan on not being able to eat for nearly 2 weeks and losing about 5lbs

2 days in the hospital, about a week before you can really talk clearly, about two weeks you feel okay, a month later
