Maybe he's made multiple dumb mistakes, but not all of them are public.
Maybe he's just a pain in the locker room and coaches finally decided he isn't worth the headache.
Or maybe the kid has had so many chances at the school, that kicking him out is the wake up call he needs and coaches decided they are doing HIM a favor by giving the wake up call now.
Seems like low risk for potentially high reward if the kid is a graduate and is basically a 1 year mercenary. If he's a pain, he's gone the next year either way. If it works out, you rescued him and gave him a chance.
