CObluezone Walk-on
My thoughts on the game & Program Overall......(NOT POPULAR)

I find it better to post after emotion is taken out of the equation and I am calm.  I rewatched the game and saw the following- (#4 is the most important)

1.) The defense has given up & injuries are killing us on this side of the ball. When you have Tuausopa and Jones starting at middle and OLB, we are already in deep crap. Those two were running all over the place and didn't know their assignments. Especially on that last Boise St. TD drive, those two killed us on the mulitple 3rd and long situations. Also, that first TD pass, what the crap Anderson? I could read that from a mile away.  Our D tackles gave up at the end and were manhandled badly. This Boise St. O line was not good and we got owned. Pathetic.

2.) I truly, truly think that Tanner cannot run the pro-style offense. There were at least one to two recievers open when he threw it into double coverage. Either the receivers were running bad routes or Tanner didn't see them. Either way, you can tell there ZERO chemistry between receivers and Tanner. The offensive play calling was fine, the players look lost out there. Coaches need to make some major decisions about QB and receivers going forward. It appears they didn't now work hard in the off season on timing, etc. (I have no idea but I remember stories of Beck and Hall staying for hours after practice to work on routes/chemistry and it showed)

3.) Besides the injuries, the talent is pretty servicable. There ARE talented guys on our team and it shows on multiple plays. Either the coaches have lost this team, or team is really lazy and not putting in the work. It could be both? It is so obvious that our team is not good but its because of sloppy/uninspired play IMHO. We have NO play maker on the offensive side of the ball, which isn't lack of talent, its lack of desire (and dare I say it...Grit).

4.) Pro-Style is what BYU should be running. It fits all of our strengths of what we can recruit to BYU (Big, physical linemen, awesome TE, route sound receivers and great QB) It is very, very complex and we should have the mental capcity to figure it out (i.e.- Stanford type intellect)  However, High School kids, especially the current roster, all played spread in High School. That is the new norm unfortunaltely and it shows on our team. In a pro-style system, it is rare to have young players come in and understand all the nuances and complexity of the system. That is why you sit out for several years and then get your shot as a Jr. and Sr. This IS the type of offense we need to incorporate at BYU. The question is: Does our Fan base have the patience to wait for its fruits? So far on CB, we don't and I understand because we want success now. But, I will wait because this type of offense will set us up for the "Special Season" we all so longingly want.

Sitake and Detmer are going agaist the grain and doing the hard work that Bronco and Anae didn't want to do. (Quick fix spread air raid) Are they doing a good job right in this moment? No. But I truly believe they are the best coaches for the future of BYU football. Give them at least 3-4 years before jumping on the fire Detmer/Sitake train. It will make your life better.
