Some answers.
But in comparison to say Utah, or Washington State, is our stadium not already better?

No. Our stadium is not better.

Is our weight room / training worse than theirs?

Yes. Our weight room/training rooms are worse. Ours is fine but the others are better and in this day and age, others are upgrading their already great facilities before they are even considered old. We hang onto our good facilities and hold to the idea that they are sufficient for what we need. Players are comfortable with our weight room, I am sure, but the others are far superior.

Do we just not have enough money for coaches to get on a plane and go recruit Hawaii or wherever there is a kid we want?

We have money for recruiting trips.

Are we not able to get quality gear for our players, despite our apparel contract?

We get quality gear for our players from Nike.

I'm just not sure what tangible benefits more money would provide, other than I said above a bigger budget for coaches?

More money means nicer facilities. Nicer facilities makes it easier to impress young athletes and it shows that we are willing to commit to being a big time program like the others they will be visiting.

It can mean better coaches salaries. We need to find the coaches willing to come here that are worth the money, though.

Finally, do we have any idea how the compensation of our 2 coordinators - Detmer and Tuiaki - compares to those of a Utah (rival) or Washington State (current dream offense of many CBers?

Our coordinators are currently paid well by byu standards but there is a significant difference in schools with much larger budgets.

Or do perhaps we just have less effective/experienced/quality coordinators or lesser talent due to academic requirements or honor code requirements or lack of big conference participation?

The LDS factor is a major reason we have to get coaches with less experience and are unproven. We have to take chances on people and the pool of coaches willing to live the honor code on a full time basis is really small.
