We're talking different levels of motivation. I find myself doing exactly what your FIL did. Part of it is ignorance. "What, they invented an easier way?" I honestly don't know, I'm getting older and more out of touch with new things. You learn an old thing really well and then it can feel daunting to learn the same thing again. This is every year in tech. There was a time when tech moved slower, and a skill you learned could last decades, not months. This factors in big time right now with people over 35.
