I taught school in a small Arizona Jr. High in the latter 70's. Corporal punishment was allowed and several teachers had paddles.

One day our principal was out of town. Our science teacher took a kid out for a paddling in the main hall. The kid totally lost it. For about 10 minutes he screamed at the top of his voice, "Don't hit me Mr._______. Please don't hit me." All other classes were interrupted by his screams. The kid probably took years off his life that day. He'd have been better off to have just faced the music.
