I don't think that one's taxable income would necessarily be the same as one's
"tithe-able increase". They might be the same, or they might not be.
Figuring out your increase for the purposes of tithing can be trickier when you are self employed. But at any rate, I'm not sure I would follow the advice of the family in the huge house with "no income" for the last 27 years.
