We see the same thing around here with the Hutterites.
They are like Mennonites here in Montana. They are all on medicaid. They all drive huge trucks and these Mercedes Sprinter vans everywhere they go. As members of a commune, they claim zero income. I have no idea if they pay taxes, but I do know that they are all on medicaid, so I assume their tax burden is either very low or zero.
