lower standards any more than I have a problem with a talented musician or artist or math kid having a bit lower academic standards. I do believe that BYU lowers their standards less than are allowed overall and less than even other schools in Utah. There are the Stanford's of the world where the standards aren't lowered but BYU is no Stanford and few are.
