That has evolved since we were in the MWC and will probably get worse. It isn't that the student body might protest, but that their institutions listen to them and it will bring constant, negative attention to BYU and the Church. I don't agree that all publicity is good publicity--it gets old, tiring, and distracts from the fun. Yes, that's out there already, but it can get worse. May not end up being that big of a deal, but it's worth considering.
