Some soothing atmospheric music to put the workweek to rest.
1. Bird: Ghost
Obscure is an understatement. I hope they put some more music out and last long enough to reach their potential.
2. This Mortal Coil: Strength of Strings
The Ivo Watts-Russell (4AD) project is best known for Elizabeth Fraser's (Cocteau Twins) vocals on a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren." But this is another haunting gem, with Dominic Appleton (Breathless) singing a Gene Clark (The Byrds) song.
3. Miranda Sex Garden: Cover My Face
Goth madrigals. Who knew it could work so well?
4. Kari Rueslåtten: Trollferd
Two Norwegians singing about dancing in a fairy circle with trolls. Just a normal Friday afternoon.
5. Dead Can Dance: Children of the Sun
One of my top five favorite bands, and an awesome live act. More people know Dead Can Dance than they realize, whether from Lisa Gerrard's soundtrack work (e.g. Gladiator) or the play their Into the Labyrinth album got on 120 Minutes. Here's something more recent.
