One year we only used the skid grip on an old skateboard to shape the body. It

Took for ever, but my son felt a whole lot more involved in the car than when power tools were used. Of course I helped move and shape a great deal, but cycled him in to take turns - enough that he felt he had created the sleek design through his pattern of sanding.

I finally got to where "we" could build cars that were fast and "the boys" got a few first places,

I helped cut and sand. I drilled the holes the weights and helped him glue on additional weights when were still light.
