My 7yo daughter's team took second place in her class' ended of the year "Knowledge Bowl."
On the drive home, she told me that she won, because they were really close to being first place. I told her it's awesome that she felt like she did a good job, because she really did great, but that actually only the first place team really "won." She argued back with me that she pretty much won, and I emphasized that it's okay not to win every time, and that you can still be proud of your good effort, but that actually winning means that you take first place.
