The big design flaw is that a continuous flow game like soccer should have less players on the field and a smaller field. It creates a space and pacing problem the way it is now. And that makes it too hard to score, so much so that the correlation between superior play and scoring is way to weak.
8' x 24' is plenty big enough.
American-style indoor soccer and Futsal have smaller goals but don't have the space and pacing structural problems of regular 11 v 11 soccer, and don't have the issue of it being too hard to score.
