Some of L&R's songs were pure gems.
I loved No New Tale to Tell and It's all in My Mind. If we're adding groups though, I'd throw in the Cult from that time frame. Again, I wouldn't say the whole body of work was awesome, but they had a couple really good songs.

True enough. Smiths only played (as the Smiths) for five years, though.

Add Joy Division, New Order, and Electronic together and it's still the Smiths.

I think I agree, most days at least. Morrissey had a way of saying stuff

This is a pole fail because the results should be 100% to 0 for The Smiths

I saw the Smiths in Oakland for the "Meat is Murder" tour.

Strageways wasn't their best album but it's great. Girlfriend in a Coma was

I've always thought Girlfriend in a Coma was some brilliant songwriting

I think Johnny Marr's muisicianship trumps all of New Order combined.

YouTube is the best thing that ever happened to Joy Division. Their peak was so

Yeah I think this is a different conversation if Curtis had lived.

I think his closest comparison is Morrissey. New Order = Smiths w/out Morrissey.
