Needing to have a competition for starting QB is not a good thing. In fact, I daresay it's been a big contributor to
BYU's mediocrity/suckitude over the past decade.
When was the last time we had a QB start two full seasons in a row? Yep, Max Hall. Maybe it's a coincidence that 2009 was also the last time we had a "really good" season and beat Utah. Maybe.
