some pretty underwhelming defenses. It was bad with Hill and Williams, it was bad with all the backups we threw in there. Yeah, there were a few promising moments with Critchlow and Hoge, but never enough to build on. I wanted very badly for Detmer to be successful, but you’ve got to pin a lot of this, not all, on him.
Detmer is a treasure for BYU. His initiation into coaching should have been more carefully managed by Sitake and Holmoe. It’s wasn’t the fans’ job to decide if he was ready for this, and to make sure he was surrounded with the right staff. It was their job and they screwed it up badly. I’m still mad.
