I think the players are out to prove something, and I have a suspicion they may
just surprise in spite of the coaches, not because of them. However, after the way Kalani has handled the team with scapegoating and excuses, and the way he handled the Ty Detmer fiasco (regardless of whether you think Ty needed to go or not), it was the WAY he was let go that mattered. It leaves a very bad, even disgusting aftertaste in my mouth that is contrary to everything that has made me a BYU fan all these years. I will have a very hard time ever unreservedly relishing in Kalani's success going forward, but that does not translate to the players. They are not responsible for the coaches, and deserve to have some success on the field based on their investment in the program, and their work ethic / commitment between last year and this year. If they have busted their guts to be all that they can be, and continue to do so going in to this coming season, I can enjoy and cheer for that, win or lose.
