Meh, I’m a Vietnam junky.
There are so many complex storylines in that saga. I think that inspiration is behind what made the originals really compelling. The stories are trite since the originals.
But you could pick a lot of interesting historical themes from any era and weave them through. But Lucas chose nam, so I think you could keep going with it.
I’ve thought a lot about Vietnam. Much less about Star Wars.
