To answer your first question, yes! Now we are getting somewhere!
*Ok, batting average means something. But probably like 1/20th of what you’re attributing to it. And RBIs are worthless. Hits are contextual and don’t mean much. How many plate appearances did they have? Were a large percentage of the hits singles? Why would we give the same value to singles as to homers?


Try wRC+. It gives linear weights to everything a batter does at the plate. It gives or takes away points for ballparks. It is based off a scale of 100, so Machado’s 156 is 56% better than league average. Trout’s worst season ever is about 70% better than league average.

Move forward and never quote RBIs as if they matter again. They can be fun. But they mean nothing when comparing two players.
