They were using BYU as a trophy, and trying to recruit UNLV (to be with Nevada), Boise, and SDSU.

BYU wasn't involved with it----this was Karl Benson, the commissioner of the WAC trying to recruit MWC schools over.  It was either the WAC was going to poach the MWC, or the MWC poach the WAC.

Well, UNLV said no, and so Nevada joined the MWC to be with UNLV.   Fresno was also invited to the MWC and joined.

So, Wyoming fans are correct that they would have been screwed if the MWC had lost.  But they are wrong that BYU was the mastermind of it all.    BYU wasn't even involved in the discussions.
