Slow day at work, so analyzing Tanners completed passes from McNeese State.
1. Pass to Holker out of the backfield. Defender in his face. Not sure if designed or a checkdown, likely designed. Good job putting it in a good spot.
2. 3rd and 22. Short pass to MLP. Designed, not a check down. Conservative play deep in your own territory. Coaches call plays like this 80-90 % of the time, Not on Tanner for not going for the 1st down.
3. 2nd and 11 to MLP for 6 yards. Good play to make it a maneagable third down. Don't know what his first read is. He had Pau'u up top, but a defender underneath him, can't tell what route he was running. Shumway was pretty well covered , but maybe could have gotten it to him for first, Defender would have been right on him, and would have been a really tough throw to complete.
4. 3rd and 4. Pass to the L to Hifo for 7 and first down. Keeps the drive going where the run game has been awesome. Don't know if there was enough time for anything to develop further downfield, and why pass up the first down and move the chains for a big play in this situation?
5. 2nd and 8 Play action. Looks down and Holker is covered, Can't tell if Bushman is or not, but pocket is collapsing quick. Dumps it to his safety Valve Hifo for a 7 yard gain.
6. 3rd and goal at the 7. Pump fake, fade for TD to Shumway for 7 yards.
7. 1 and 10. Quick pass to Simon for 3 yards. Simon put his knee down or would have possibly gained a few more, or been a big gain if he breaks a tackle. There was a blitz, so not much time to wait for the other routes to develop.
8. 3rd and 10. Screen to Holker. Obvious designed screen. 1 Block away from breaking it, but only gained 2 yards.
9. 1st and 10. Pass to Holker from out of the backfield. Looked like designed to him. If not there certainly wasn't anywhere else to go with it. Gained 11 yards.
10. 3rd and 5. Hifo across the middle for a gain of 10. Designed screen. You see the WR blocking downfield. Can't blame Tanner for not throwing deep when the playcall is designed screen.
11. 1st and 10. Play action rolling to the Right. 11 yard pass to Pau'u. I can't see Milne in the picture, but looked like there was safety help over the top. Not sure if he was a better option, but I'll take the 11 yard pass for a first down every time before throwing a bomb downfield with a Safety over top.
12. 2nd and 25 after unsportsmanlike penalty. Avoids pressure then Rolls to the R, hits Bushman for 16 yards.
13. 3rd and 9. Blitz, unblocked rusher in Tanners face. Dumps it off to MLP for 2 yard gain, Can't see whats going downfield to see if anyone was open initially, but the late blitz got the OL sleeping and Saleapaga missed the block. Tanner didn't have time for some of the deeper routes to develop.
14. 3rd and 6. Curl route to Hifo. Looked like the first read and he was open. Hit him for the first down.
15. 2nd and 11. Sits in the pocket, looks to the Center at Bushman it seems, then goes to the R and hits an open Akile Davis on a curl route for 12 yards.

So, for those so critical. Please tell me what plays Tanner is missing the open guys down field, and in which case he should have taken that play rather than the completion he took. I only included the completions as a follow up to the incomplete passes from the other day as I was told that is only part of the story.
